Monday 4

4. Juli – Montag

Today was the first day of classes. At 8:15 we set out to find our way to the language school in the rain. Eventually, after walking three blocks in the wrong direction and wandering around until something looked vaguely familiar, we found it. Even though it took 45 min to get to class today, tomorrow it should only take about 10. We have to take the U-bahn a few stops over. In the past two days we’ve been on the U-bahn a lot, but apparently at 8:30 on weekdays everybody is on that train.

My class has about 15 people. After 24 hours in Vienna, you realize that diversity is a big deal, but I had no idea how big a deal it was. My youngest classmate is Haram, 15 years old from South Korea and the oldest is Tony, a 50- something Englishman (who has lived in Vienna for the past 10 years and figured it was about time to learn German). We also have people from Japan, Hungary, Turkey, Seattle, Slovakia and Poland. My table-buddies are Hannah and Rutsuko. Hannah is 23 from Krakow, Poland and studies medicine. Rutsuko is from Japan and has lived in Vienna for the past two years at the music school and has only been learning German for 8 months!

And now that the weather is a bit nicer and I FOUND a McDonalds with WIFI - there WILL be pictures tomorrow!!

And I totally forgot it was Independence Day :P
